Professional Internet Case Simulation (PICS)
| MDDS has developed a new groundbreaking format of professional continuing education for dental professionals: interactive patient case simulations. These clinical cases are Internet-based and available 24 hours a day. Each Professional Internet Case Simulation (PICS) program presents practitioners with real case challenges developed by esteemed clinicians. The PICS format includes unique features not seen in any other online CE course. Some of these features include: images and x-rays with “zoom” capabilities, virtual articulator, equilibration-in-motion, interactive key principles and a digital library. Each case utilizes video patient and case author interviews, the ability to chat with other PICS subscribers and case authors and an extensive resource guide for each topic. |
Oral Lesion Mystery
Case Author Dr. Alan Gould
‘Oral Lesion Mystery’ is an interactive patient case simulation wherein practitioners must determine which of three patients has a dangerous oral lesion. The case begins in a virtual office with a report from an oral pathologist. Participants review patient data while gathering clues to help solve the mystery using digital intra-oral images with “zoom” capabilities, patient charts and video patient interviews. Once the clinical judgment decisions are made, and the mystery solved, they visit the resource section that includes articles and video commentary, along with a simulated phone consult with Dr. Gould.
The case author for the Oral Lesion Mystery is Dr. Alan R. Gould, a nationally recognized expert in clinical oral and maxillofacial pathology, and a Diplomat of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology. Dr. Gould has served as the editor of the Oral & Maxillofacial Pathology Section of Oral Surgery, Oral Medicine, Oral Pathology, Oral Radiology & Endodontics, and as a consultant for the ADA. He has also been the director of the Oral Pathology group at the University of Louisville, School of Dentistry, and maintains a clinical oral pathology practice in Crestwood and Louisville, KY. Dr. Gould and his team are highly skilled in patient evaluation, selection and performance of diagnostic procedures and tests, and oral disease management.
