The Rules...

If you don't understand any part of what your dentist recommends, don't be afraid to ask for more information.

  • Your dental treatment may require many appointments over several weeks or months.
  • To remain in the program you must keep appointments and arrive on time.
  • All information is confidential, so be honest with the dentist about your conditions, medications and/or past substance abuse.
  • You may have to visit several different dentists to finish your treatment. The first
dentist, a general dentist, will develop the plan that he/she will discuss with you. That will determine who else might be involved and how long it will take.
  • Inform your dentist of allergies you have and any medications you are taking to avoid serious complications.
  • All dental services provided to you are free. Be aware that certain incidental costs (i.e., medication) - if any - will be your responsibility. Discuss your ability to handle this responsibility with the doctor before beginning and during treatment.
  • After several visits to a dental office, your teeth/mouth will feel and look better - YOUR TREATMENT IS NOT COMPLETE UNTIL THE DENTIST SAYS SO. It is very important to continue to see the dentist as long as it takes to complete treatment.
  • Because dental care is a highly personalized health service it varies from patient to patient.
  • To maintain your dental health you must practice good dental healthcare at home between dental visits and follow your dentist's instructions.

The dental care provided through this program is for YOU. Please do not ask the dental office to provide care to your family or friends. For information on additional dental resources, Low-income Dental Referral Listing.
