Metro Denver Dental Foundation (MDDF)

Striving to advance awareness and education for improved oral health and to enhance access to dental care for all populations served by MDDS members.

The Smile Again Program

formerly known as the Domestic Violence Dental Care Program (DVDCP)

Established in 2002, the Smile Again Program is a community service project of Metropolitan Denver Dental Society member dentists that offers cost-free dental care to qualifying disadvantaged survivors of domestic violence in Denver in an effort to restore oral health and assist in recovery. Over $600,000 in dental care has been donated by volunteer dentists and specialists to those who have suffered dental trauma and neglect as a result of domestic violence.

“These families live in crisis mode for months or years and have not had a chance to think about dental health. As I have seen time and again, dental needs not addressed affect victims’ health, self-esteem, ability to get a job or housing or other services. Dental issues have a huge impact on self-esteem and recovery.”
- Family Advocate

The Metropolitan Denver Dental Foundation’s national and local award-winning access to dental care program for disadvantaged survivors of domestic violence involves 143 volunteer dentists who provide cost-free dental care to men, women and children from this under served population. Dental services are performed in volunteer offices and materials, supplies and lab fees are provided by the Metro Denver Dental Society and generous community partners and funders.

Currently, only patients referred from local transitional service agencies will be considered for evaluation. We have aligned ourselves in partnership with the following agencies because of their outstanding reputations and ability to identify patients at a point in their recovery wherein they are more stable to receive care.
