Bonded porcelain restorations present the dentist with a broad spectrum of treatment options in aesthetically demanding situations. They also present the dentist with a new set of restorative challenges and techniques. It is imperative that we understand the various materials and techniques available, along with the indications and limitations of each.
In this course all aspects of planning and delivering conservative, bonded indirect restorations will be covered. The presentations will include case selection, treatment planning, tooth preparation, provisional fabrication, restorative material options, luting resins, and bonding techniques. Participation exercises will consist of tooth preparations and provisionals for anterior porcelain veneers and posterior-bonded onlay restorations.

Instructors: Dr. Jim Kessler & Dr. Michael Fling
Dr. James C. Kessler is the Chairman of Education at the Pankey Institute for Advanced Dental Education. Jim is a 1977 graduate of the University of Oklahoma College Of Dentistry. He has spent 20 years in private practice and is now in his fourteenth year in dental education. Early in his career he spent ten years teaching, first at the University of Oklahoma and then at the Medical University of South Carolina. In 1988 he entered private practice in Tulsa, Oklahoma where he spent eighteen years. In January 2007, Dr. Kessler returned to dental education at the University of Oklahoma where he was the Herbert T. Shillingburg Professor and Chair of the Division of Restorative Dentistry. On January 1st, 2011 Jim assumed his position with the Pankey Institute. Dr. Kessler’s primary areas of interest are materials and technologies for the clinical and laboratory fabrication of esthetic ceramic restorations. He has published many articles, as well as contributions to three textbooks, and is an active lecturer for both Dentists and Dental Laboratory Technician groups. He has lectured throughout the United States as well as Canada, Europe and Asia. He and his wife, Dee, have four children and two grandchildren and love to retreat to their cabin in the San Juan Mountains in southern Colorado to hike and fly fish.
Dr. Michael C. Fling began his career in dentistry in 1976 as a laboratory technician. Graduating from Oklahoma University College of Dentistry in 1984, he received the “Young Dentist of the Year Award” in 1988 from the Oklahoma Dental Association. Maintaining a private practice with an emphasis on aesthetic and restorative dentistry, he has served as Course Director and as Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Fixed Prosthodontics at the O.U. College of Dentistry. He is the founder and President of “Fling Seminars”, providing advanced dental education to dental teams and technicians throughout the country. He was named by Dentistry Today as one of the “Top Clinicians in Continuing Education” for the last two years. Currently he serves as a guest lecturer at O.U. College of Dentistry in the Department of Fixed Prosthodontics and as an Associate Faculty at the L.D. Pankey Institute. He has lectured internationally to dental and laboratory associations and to various study groups on fundamental principles of aesthetic and restorative dentistry, philosophical and managerial concepts, and achieving technical excellence. Mike and his wife, Leslie, have two children and live in Edmond, OK.
